The Coffee Road project was split into four phases pre-determined by the City of New Berlin due to traffic concerns. When the correct depth was reached, a layer of non-woven geo-textile fabric was laid as the bottom layer, which keeps the dirt that's underneath separate from the stone above. Kicking off the Hospital Construction channel with the first construction time-lapse. Although the demolition and the construction overlap in reality, I consider the first week of this time-lapse to be the first week of construction, since the last of the demolition company's equipment leaves on Monday morning. Not a huge amount to see in this first time-lapse. You can see them driving the I-beams (called "soldier beams", I believe) into the ground for the retaining walls so that they can start excavating deeper. Interestingly, they are not demolishing the old foundation walls, they are building the retaining walls right in front of them.
